Cabbage Toran

Total Time: 45 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 8 cups shredded cabbage
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/8 teaspoon chili powder (optional)
  • 2 -3 tablespoons shredded unsweetened coconut
  • salt

Recipe

  • 1 heat the oil in a large skillet.
  • 2 add the mustard seeds.
  • 3 lower the heat and cover the skillet while the seeds are popping.
  • 4 after the popping has stopped, add the cabbage.
  • 5 stir well to coat.
  • 6 cover and simmer 20 minutes.
  • 7 add the turmeric, chili powder if desired, coconut and salt.
  • 8 mix well.
  • 9 cover and simmer 10 minutes more.
  • 10 serve warm.
  • 11 enjoy!
  • 12 variation: to make vegetable toran, replace the cabbage with 6 cups frozen mixed vegetables.
