Suss-saures Rotkraut (sweet-and-sour Red Cabbage)

Ingredients

- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 4 medium apples, peel, slice
- 2 bay leaves
- 1/2 red onion, chopped
- 1/4 cup vinegar
- 1 head red cabbage, finely shredded
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 cup red wine
- 1 lemon, juice of
- 1/2 medium lemon
- 4 whole cloves
Recipe
- 1 melt butter in 4-quart dutch oven.
- 2 add apples and onions, sauté slightly.
- 3 add finely shredded cabbage, red wine, cloves, sugar, and bay leaves.
- 4 simmer, covered, for 1 hour.
- 5 then add the remaining ingredients.
- 6 heat to melt the butter and serve immediately.
