creamed cabbage

  • place the bacon in a large, deep skillet, and cook over medium-high heat, turning occasionally, until evenly browned, about 10 minutes. remove the bacon slices to cool.
  • whisk the butter, flour, and salt into the drippings in the same pan. stir in the cabbage, and cook, stirring occasionally, over medium heat until cabbage is tender, about 15 minutes. crumble the bacon; stir the bacon pieces and sour cream into the cabbage mixture.

  • preheat grill for medium heat.
  • cut the cabbage into 8 wedges, and remove the core. place all the wedges on a piece of aluminum foil large enough to wrap the cabbage. season to taste with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. seal cabbage in the foil.
  • grill for 30 to 40 minutes on the preheated grill, until tender.

Smothered Collard Greens And Cabbage

  • 1/2 large onion, chopped
  • 5 leaves collard greens - rinsed, trimmed and chopped
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon greens seasoning, divided
  • 1 head cabbage, chopped
  • 1 pinch white sugar

  • fry the bacon with the onion in a large skillet over medium heat until the bacon is crisp, about 10 minutes. stir in the chopped collard greens, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and 1/2 teaspoon of the greens seasoning; cook and stir for 5 minutes.
  • add in the darker chopped cabbage leaves, and cook and stir until almost tender, about 5 minutes. stir in the remaining cabbage; season with salt, black pepper, sugar, and the remaining greens seasoning. stir well; cover and cook until tender, stirring occasionally so that the greens do not scorch, about 10 minutes.

  • heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat. season the lamb chops with salt and pepper, and brown on both sides in the skillet. place the cabbage on top of the chops, and sprinkle with seasoned salt and worcestershire sauce. cover skillet and cook 15 minutes.

  • 1 clove garlic, chopped
  • 1/4 cup chopped carrot
  • 1/2 pound ground lamb
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 (10 ounce) package wonton wrappers
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar

  • heat sesame oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. mix in cabbage, onion, garlic and carrot. cook and stir until cabbage is limp. mix in ground lamb and egg. cook until lamb is evenly brown and egg is no longer runny.
  • preheat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium high heat.
  • place approximately 1 tablespoon of the cabbage and lamb mixture in the center of each wrapper. fold wrappers in half over filling, and seal edges with moistened fingers.
  • in the preheated vegetable oil, cook gyoza approximately 1 minute per side, until lightly browned. place water into skillet and reduce heat. cover and allow gyoza to steam until the water is gone.
  • in a small bowl, mix soy sauce and rice vinegar. use the mixture as a dipping sauce for the finished wrappers.

Fried Cabbage With Turkey

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 smoked turkey leg, meat removed and chopped
  • 1/4 yellow onion, sliced
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 whole cabbage, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 dash ground black pepper
  • 1 dash togarashi (japanese red pepper condiment)

  • heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. cook and stir turkey in hot oil until warmed, about 3 minutes. add onion; cook and stir until hot, about 1 minute.
  • reduce heat to medium-low. pour chicken broth over the turkey mixture; stir. bring liquid to a simmer and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 3 minutes.
  • stir cabbage with the turkey mixture; season with salt, pepper, and togarashi; cook and stir until the cabbage has begun to soften, 2 to 3 minutes. reduce heat to low, place a cover on the skillet, and continue to cook until the cabbage is completely tender, 2 to 3 minutes more.
