Cabbage Roll Casserole

Total Time: 1 hr 50 mins Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 1 hr 30 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 6
  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • 2 medium onions, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 (14 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 can water
  • 1/2 cup uncooked long grain rice
  • 4 cups cabbage, shredded
  • sauerkraut (optional)

Recipe

  • 1 brown beef, onions, garlic, salt, pepper, tomato sauce and water.
  • 2 bring to a boil and stir in rice.
  • 3 cover and simmer for 20 minutes.
  • 4 place 1/2 of the cabbage in a greased baking dish; cover with 1/2 the rice mixture.
  • 5 repeat layers.
  • 6 cover and bake in 350 oven for one l hour.
  • 7 if desired you can put sauerkraut on top of the layers.
  • 8 another alternative is to use an equivalent amount of tomato juice instead of the sauce and water.
