Halushki

Total Time: 1 hr 10 mins Preparation Time: 25 mins Cook Time: 45 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 8
  • 1 head cabbage
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 medium onions
  • 1 cup margarine
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 (16 ounce) package wide egg noodles
  • salt and pepper

Recipe

  • 1 finely chop cabbage.
  • 2 put in a pan with salted water to cover.
  • 3 bring to a boil.
  • 4 cook 5 minutes.
  • 5 in the meantime, chop onions and saute in 1 c margarine until tender, approximately 10 minutes.
  • 6 drain cooked cabbage, rinse with cold water, squeeze out the excess water.
  • 7 mix into the cooked onion; add 1/2 c butter, mix and cook until medium browned, approximately 30 minutes, stirring to prevent overbrowning.
  • 8 cook noodles 5-6 minutes.
  • 9 drain; combine with cooked cabbage, mixing well.
  • 10 season with salt and pepper.
