Latvian Crockpot Kraut

Ingredients

  • Servings: 10
  • 1 (27 ounce) can sauerkraut, rinsed and drained
  • 1 small head cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 apples, peeled and diced
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons caraway seeds
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons bacon drippings

Recipe

  • 1 in a slow cooker, layer the drained kraut with sliced cabbage, onion and apples.
  • 2 sprinkle each layer with caraway seeds and sugars.
  • 3 pour bacon drippings over the top.
  • 4 cover slow cooker and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours (on high for 3 hours).
  • 5 stir well before serving with roast lamb and potatoes.
