Chok'n Chili

Ingredients

  • Servings: 12
  • 1 1/2 lbs lean stewing beef
  • 1 1/2 lbs lean ground beef
  • 2 onions, diced
  • 1/2 green pepper, chopped
  • 5 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 1 celery rib, chopped
  • 1 small carrot, grated
  • 1/2 cup turnip, chopped
  • 1/2 cup cabbage, shredded
  • 1/4 cup pickled hot peppers, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 3 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons chilies
  • 1/4 teaspoon coriander
  • 28 ounces tomatoes
  • 14 ounces tomato sauce
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 16 ounces kidney beans
  • 1 tablespoon cornmeal
  • 10 ounces beef broth

Recipe

  • 1 1. brown minced beef and remove with slotted spoon to large casserole. brown stewing beef and remove to casserole.
  • 2 2. saute onions, pepper, celery, turnip, cabbage in fat in pan.
  • 3 3. add cumin, chili powder,chillies,coriander,oregano and salt and pepper to taste. add beef broth and cornmeal along with garlic, tomatoes and tomato sauce, wine, pepper rings, and rinsed kidney beans.
  • 4 4. oven 300 and bake for 2 hours.
